Red Ear Slider Turtles (Trachemys
Scripta Elegans) you see here for sale are the most recognized turtles in
the United States and possibly the entire world. Bet you have a pretty good
idea as to why they are called red ear slider turtles? Yep, they have a red
slash where their ears are. Slider comes from them being famous for sliding
into the water when approached in the wild. Red ear slider turtles have great
personalities and can quickly learn to eat from your hand. They are extremely
hardy making them a perfect beginner turtle. Red ear sliders originate from the
southern United States down to northern Mexico but can be found in almost every
stream, river, pond and lake in the United States. Preferred water temperatures
are mid-70s to low-80s degrees Fahrenheit. Basking temperatures should be kept
between the high-80s and mid-90s degrees Fahrenheit. As with most aquatic water
turtles, red ear slider turtles are mostly carnivorous as hatchling turtles and
become more herbivorous as they age. In the wild they enjoy eating vegetation,
snails, tadpoles, small fish, crayfish, insects and insect larvae. In captivity
they love being feed turtle pellets, green leaf lettuce, mustard greens, grass
shrimp, freeze dried meal worms and the list goes on and on. However with that
said you must remember to feed all your turtles a variety of different foods.
Never feed just one type of food on a regular basis.

Being a reptile you must understand that turtles and tortoises cannot
produce their own body heat, in captivity they must rely on you to produce a
heat source & cool source so they can regulate their body temperature. We
ship all of our turtles and tortoises via UPS. You must understand how
important it is for you to add a heat pack or cool pack to your order so your
reptile can stay warm or cool during its trip to you. When your order leaves
our facility it is driven to the UPS airport where it is loaded on to the
plane. This is where the warm pack and cool pack play a very important role in
the health of your new friend. UPS has its main world port hub in
Louisville Kentucky and all packages must go through that hub first before it
is moved to the plane that will bring it to your state, however your package may
be in the elements for several hours before being processed and loaded onto the
plane. With the extreme weather that continues to plague our country we ask
that you give great thought to purchasing one or even two of our heat or cool
packs so that your new turtle or tortoise will arrive to you safe, healthy and
most important comfortable. Thank You for your continued support TurtleShack
